American artist Jeff Koons created an 18-and-a-half foot sculpture titled Coloring Book that was auctioned off at a charity event near Cannes and managed to fetch $13.2 million USD for AIDS research. A long list of celebrities were in attendance at the annual amfAR event
“Cinema Against AIDS” including Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Fassbender and
Sienna Miller among many others. The event took place at the Hotel
de Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes and included other works up for
auction including a Banksy donated by Leonardo DiCaprio which sold for
more than a signed Picasso and a portrait of Elizabeth Taylor by Andy
Warhol. In total, the evening took in over $35 million USD for the organization.
