Swizz Beatz Has a KAWS Colossus at His House

Music producer and art collector Swizz Beatz (real name Kasseem Dean) has been documenting the installation of one of the wooden colossi from KAWS’s recent solo show at Mary Boone on Instagram. Titled AT THIS TIME (2013), the nearly 19-foot-tall sculpture arrived chez Swizzy last week, and has been slowly rising in a double-height room at Dean’s home. As of yesterday, it looked largely complete, save for its head.

The massive installation and assemblage job hasn’t stopped Swizzy from pursuing other artworks and art-related activities. Four days ago he was collaborating with Damien Hirst on a new work. Three days ago he was acquiring large wooden sculptures by Taku Obata. Last week he was flaunting a recent acquisition by Brazilian street art duo Os Gemeos.

Other works in Dean’s collection, judging from his Instagram activity, include a large painting by another Mary Boone artist, Peter Saul, a canvas by Retna inscribed in his trademark drippy calligraphy, and an X-Men-themed painting by Hebru Brantley.
