Will Kurtz: From the Borough to the Beach: Brooklyn-Based Art

Brooklyn-based sculptor and urban voyeur Will Kurtz meticulously constructs life-size figures modeled after personal acquaintances and eye-catching characters casually encountered in and around his Bushwick neighborhood. The sculptures are constructed from easily accessible, everyday household materials such as glue, newspaper, masking tape, screws and wood, which when brought together, imbue the works with an immediate sense of comfort and familiarity. Using utter sincerity, Kurtz provides an unapologetic mosaic of New Yorkers in their blunt, colorful, and borderline-manic idiosyncrasies.

A showcase for three Brooklyn-based artists. The works of controversial and irreverent painter Mike Cockrill, figurative artist and sculptor Will Kurtz, and fashion illustrator Jennifer Lilya are on display through Nov. 16.
